IMG 9930 This is the way the blank had been cut. This puts the nicer side on the presentation side (the side away from the shooter) which is more traditional, although myself I often prefer to have the nice side showing to me since I'm the main one that looks at it. The grain flow through the pistol grip is not ideal and some figure is left out of the stock.

IMG 9925 This is upside down from how the blank had been cut, but the grain sweeps up through the pistol grip in a stronger way, and we pick up more figure. Also the grain sweeps up through the forearm in a more traditional way. This orientation puts the nicer side towards the shooter instead of towards other people watching you shoot (the 'presentation' side).
